"De plane!, De plane!"

I watched The Aviator yesterday (Monday) morning while the tornado sirens were going off (about 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM). It is a 2004 movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes and directed by Martin Scorsese. The acting was really good, as was the script and the editing. It had a beginning, a middle, and an end, and they were all related to each other. Am I the only one, however, who thought it was boring?

I had the same problem with Catch Me If You Can, a 2002 movie also starring DiCaprio. It also was extremely well-structured, directed by Steven Spielberg, yet oddly dull.

As I was watching The Aviator, I tried to figure out what was wrong. It may be that both movies simply need to be seen on a big screen, since both deal with such larger than life characters. It may be that Leonardo is such a larger than life personality that he needs to only be seen on the big screen. Or, there is the possibility, that both pictures were just spiritless since both dealt with men who were essentially emotionally dead.

Before I could come up with an answer, the rain stopped and Rooty and I went to McDonald's for breakfast. In honor of the Spruce Goose, I order the Big Breakfast and had it Super-Sized!

Or it could be because they both featured a boring actor.

That's just my uneducated opinion.

I think DiCaprio is a good enough actor, and he's definitely has some charisma, and is oddly tall for an actor (6' 1" or 1.85 m) -- it may be that the Hughes story has been told so many times, and they added little new

The common denominator: Leonardo DiCaprio...whose last great performance was probably "Who's Eating Gilbert Grape."

Titanic was good, it takes a lot of screen presence to play opposite a BIG SHIP - his agent wanted to change his name to Lenny Williams, proving yet once again that branding is everything

Nothing like a Goose McMuffin to ring in the new year...

They have the Spruce Goose housed in a big museum really close to where I live. I keep meaning to go out and take a look, but it really doesn't seem like a destination, just something to stop and see while on the way somewhere else. If I do get around to it I'll take pictures.

pretty funny, especially coming from a sick guy!!!!! hope you are feeling better -- also hard to believe that someone who take daily pictures of trash on the sidewalk has not been to see that airplane
