Northern Composure

In a recent post, some of us made a list of blog visitors who we would like to know who they are. (I know, but it was an awkward sentence no matter how I wrote it.)

Well, I heard from my mystery visitor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada!

It was great to hear from you Rick!!!!!!!! Part of writing a blog is the sheer thrill of occasionally finding out that there is actually somebody out there.

In Rick's honor, Test your Canada Geography - Provinces Interactive Quiz

38 out of 39. Missed one for a place I'd actually been!

39 out of 39, but hardly fair considering I have lived my whole life here, and there are only 10 provinces & 3 territories.

I am pretty sure I would not get a comparable score if I were tested to identify all the states.

sd27 -- I made a few lucky guesses also.

suzi -- ok. well, glad you found your way home :)

rick -- I had never heard of Nunavut -- I guess I missed the news the day it was created -- a resident of Nunavut is a Nunavummiuq <== they do that just to annoy generations of school children and the dyslexic.

Nunavummiuq looks like an extra-long Zrharc word.

I hate when they change the names of places -- for years I thought Peking and Beijing were two different places

27 out of 39, yuck. I've got some studying to do. Maybe I'll discover my Canadian lurker as well.

Perhaps we should share the link to the Place the State game with rick from toronto! (I don't remember what it was, though..)

Great minds think alike -- I will find it tomorrow and post it.

Did you see how commenters are listed on Stan's site, really neat.

Everytime I see your "Nameless" headline, I think a Nameless, Texas, an actual town.

39 of 39! My co-workers accuse me of being Canadian!

Yay Stan found the link!

Nameless texas. Hmm. Perhaps that's a sign that it is time for me to post something new.

Yes! I like Stan's new comment name-preview thing!

Roger -- I missed Prince Edward Island, of all things -- and in the U.S. we would call it Prince Edward's Island because we like to use the possessive form -- surprised your co-workers had heard of Canada, or anyplace north of Hamel :)

[Roger work for a local newspaper, an actually good one.]

Stan has memorized the entire web, Google was named after him

Jim said...

Meagan -- they sent in their application for a post office with "Name" blank, some bureaucrat filled in "Nameless"

Jim - it's hard to keep up with all of the web traffic these days, but yes, I have the whole internets committed to memory. It's possible because I, too, am USB compatible (my left foot has a false big toe that opens up to reveal a USB plug)

Jim said...

Stan -- what does the false big toe on your right foot open to reveal? :)

stan said...

A kazoo
