The city recently rebuilt this street, and extended it to the new street that you see in the distance.The RED arrow points to the No Parking sign.
The YELLOW arrow points to the fire hydrant.
The GREEN arrows point to the two new parking spaces painted right in front of the no-parking sign and the fire hydrant.

I smell a revenue generator.
Probably one of those cases of different bureaucrats following their set procedures and ending up creating great humor for the rest of us!

Well, isn't that just typical. Some poor sap is going to get a ticket for parking there. Maybe it's for emergency or police vehicles only...that seems like a good spot to read the USA today and partake in some twinkies.
That's a "feature" used to increase the town revenue.
Ha. I'm going to to share that photo with my fire chief pop. He'll get a kick out of it!

Stan -- what you smell is our "energy tax" which pours money into city hall, which they can spend as they want unlike regular "tax" revenue
David -- I had to wait a day to take the picture because there was a truck parked in the space right next to the sign -- at most, they would have gotten a warning ticket, one of the benefits of living in a small town
phoenix -- I never thought of those special places, pregnant women, police, handicap -- when they rebuilt that street, they moved all of the parking to one side, seems like there should have been some special spaces reserved -- it had been a deadend street but since we are trying to become New York City, it was expanded across where the railroad tracks had been to that entirely new highway (you can just see the end of one of the bike tunnels in the photo)
sd27 -- they could give tickets for running red lights and turning without signaling and have enough left over to pay off the national debt :)
meagan -- please ask him about the color of the fireplug, I thought they were supposed to be yellow???
I think it doesn't matter what color they are, really. In Grants Pass (s.OR town near my home) all of the fire hydrants are painted as works of art!
