Right Lane Must Turn Left

It's that time of the week already, time for your Saturday late-night bar bet sure-thing:

Ships traveling through the Panama Canal from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic travel west. Yes, west!

Ships traveling through the canal from the Atlantic to the Pacific move east. That's correct, they move eastward.

This is all the result of a big curve in the Isthmus. Remember, if the top of a map is north, west is to the left and east is to the right.
