Maybe I should just buy gas.

We stopped at the gas station today for a hotdog.

Young mother getting herself a soda. Daughter, maybe 6 or 7, busily pulling cups out of dispensers and throwing them on the floor. Mother's only response, "Do you want ice?"

With hotdog in hand, I was waiting to pay. One the the clerks picked up a telephone and announced over the outdoor speakers. "Please put the nozzles back on the pumps. All of the pumps have stopped working." Pandemonium ensued.

A) the daughter needs a good whippin'.
B) the mother needs several whippins of her own.
C) you need to stop eating those hot dogs.
D) "Pandemonium Ensued" has GOT to be the name of your next novel. It's a GREAT title.

Alas, it is too late for this child to be anything other than a brat. By 5 or 6, a child throwing other people's property or profit (for that's what it is) on the floor without ANY correction from mom is doomed. Too bad the clerk didn't charge mom for the cups that had to be thrown away. That's the only way some parents can be forced to attend to their child's behavior. So sad.

And, yes, to all those who are wondering, I am the PERFECT mother with four PERFECT children and one PERFECT grandchild being raised by my PERFECT daughter. Thank you for asking.

OK,OK... I'll go back in time out now.

I would not have been able to resist the urge to share a few choice words with that mother!
