I so need to get a life....

"Stairway to Heaven" -- by the English rock group Led Zeppelin -- is the most requested and most played song on FM radio stations in the United States, despite never having been released as a single here. It is also the biggest-selling single piece of sheet music with an average of 15,000 copies sold annually.

For one thing it is a very pretty song and for another, it is easy to learn to play.

Interesting trivia. I wonder how that came up ...

Of course it's played more often. Generally songs are cut to 4 minutes for airplay. That song is 8 minutes long....Which means it's long enough to run outside and smoke a cig while it's playing. Since a lot of DJs smoke, they love to play longer songs! Although for us non-smokers, watching them try to get a bit of a nic fix in under four minutes is good entertainment!

Moni -- I knew you were a Rock-n-Roller at hear!!!!!! :)

DA -- I read a lest of the "Greatest Rock songs and it was way low, I thought it would be higher and that is what got me interested -- and yes my life is that dull!!

Amy -- the band had creative control and would not agree to a shorter version, although one was made and distributed as part of a public relations package to some radio stations.

Sorry to be late to the party here, but "Stairway" is what radio legend Don Geronimo(of the syndicated Don and Mike Show) would call a "great take a dump song." Yeah, I know; TMI, but that's how he rolls.
