Two weekends ago when Nicole and I were driving home from Dallas, I noticed the same phenomenon at the Texas/Oklahoma border on US 69/75. I thought it was ridiculous that someone would want to stop by the Texas Welcome Center right before, you know, leaving Texas. Maybe they figure people want to turn the lights out before they leave.
Nicole tells me that Texas is very proud of their welcome centers and has them up just about everywhere conceivable, even places that are nowhere near a border or airport!!!
